We are in a world where technology is growing or developing faster and faster daily. Technology is a great enabler for girls but lack of opportunities, skills and fear of discrimination, prevent many from using and creating digital tool and online content.

To achieve gender Securities for girls and young women, there is need for equal access to technology and digital training to be safe online.

That is why the developed Countries ensures that the female gender gains equal access to digital technology so as to reduce digital divide or technology gap among females.

Girls and women often have less access to technology and the Internet compared to boys and men particularly in developing countries, girls and women often struggle to afford technology and internet access.

Fear of being discriminated stops girls from using digital device.

TIPS FOR GIRLS PERSONNAL SECURITY

  • Download apps from verified platforms, and using two factors authentication [Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) works by adding an additional layer of security to your online accounts. It requires an additional login credential – beyond just the username and password – to gain account access, and getting that second credential requires access to something that belongs to you.]
  • To maintain privacy, remember to log out of all accounts.
  • Do not use public Wi-Fi.
  • Do not share sensitive information like bank details.
  • Use anti-virus software and other option for promoting security

Also observe the following.

1. Ensure to browse safely and maintain anonymity.

2. Check to see how much of your personal information are online.

3. Be cautious of sharing too much of historical work.

4. Verify who you are connecting with online

5. Keep control of comment (be aware of Impersonators).

6. Set a strong password.

7. Be selective with your friend request.

8. Be mindful of links you click on.

9. Know what you are sharing or posting on social media.

10. Don’t respond to random message by strangers

And lastly, because women are subject of online harassment and violence, massive campaigns of abuse and intimidation or exploration and manipulation of private data should be properly regulated to keep girls and women protected in the digital space.
